Lyric’s top notch young performers are hard at work on their spring productions. Students in grades 2 through 12 will present I WISH, a musical revue featuring songs from some of Broadway’s most known shows May 5 through 7. Students in grades 11 and 12 will also present RENT SCHOOL EDITION May 12-14. Tickets go on sale to the general public March 21.
Join us for an evening of some of Broadway’s biggest hits – the tunes will make your spirit Defy Gravity! Thelma Gaylord Academy students, Grades 2-12, will take you on three different musical journeys, as these “revolting children” dance through life- the circle of life, that is! Then, step into Park Vista Community High School for 21 CHUMP STREET, a 14-minute musical adapted from a true story reported in the radio series ‘This American Life’. Lin-Manuel Miranda (IN THE HEIGHTS, HAMILTON) has set to music a story on the ramifications of peer pressure and conformity in our schools. I WISH runs May 5 through 7.
The “School Edition” of Jonathan Larson’s Tony and Pulitzer-prize winning musical RENT has ben edited to remove the ‘edgiest’ material, but remains a piece of theatre which will challenge students and audiences alike. Performances run May 12 through 14.
In addition, the RoKademY will present a live version of the Jellyfish album, SPILT MILK. This “experimental” band, led by Oklahoma Rocker, Matthew Alvin Brown, is a full blown rock band featuring some of Oklahoma’s most talented young musicians. RoKademY’s SPILT MILK will be presented May 20 and 21.
