Live on the Plaza is such a hoppin good time. I have worked at Lyric for 2 years… and a few months… and in those 2 years I have seen such development in the Plaza District! I remember looking around the district and even then I was amazed by the local shops in the area.  But then, we didn’t even have Dig It, Saints Bar, Urban Wineworks and more.  Here at Lyric, we are all about “staying local” and helping out our neighbors.  We have partnered with so many of the wonderful Plaza District stores and made the best of it.

Here are just a few Lyric/Plaza District partnerships in 2011…

In April of last year, RetrOKC donated amazing props and set pieces during Lyric’s production of BOEING BOEING.  Since the show was set in the 1960s, we needed some great pieces that we knew RetrOKC would be perfect for that.

In October 2011, we teamed up with Velvet Monkey Salon, the amazing salon at 1701 NW 16th street in the Plaza District.  Not only does Velvet Monkey create amazing hair on the Lyric staff, they really brought the Altar Boyz to life with the hair. Velvet Monkey did an amazing job with the guys’ hair.  Even when they completely sweated off all of the gel and hairspray by mid-show! HA

Also during ALTAR BOYZ, our Associate Board worked with Saints Bar and Lounge to plan the ALTAR BOYZ opening night party on October 12th.  Saints provided the ALTAR BOYZ cast and crew amazing appetizers as well as great drinks for the night.  Thanks Saints for making it a special night.

During the summer, Lyric worked with Midwestmedia in the Plaza District to create amazing videos for OLIVER!, HAIRSPRAY, RAGTIME and A CHORUS LINE. We loved working with them on these videos.  Watch all of the 2011 summer show commercial videos on our YouTube channel!

Even though Cafe Evoke no longer has a store front in the Plaza District, we still love and support them the same.  Cafe Evoke was a part of the Plaza District for serveral years.  While they were in the area, Cafe Evoke catered coffee and other delicious drinks at our matinee shows at the Plaza Theatre. They are still around though! Cafe Evoke is opening a store front in downtown Edmond this spring.  All you Edmond-ites go support this local coffee shop!

During the entire 2011 Season, we worked with the talented Keith Rinearson with PhotoArt Studios for our publicity photos for each of our 2011 shows.  His work is incredible and his pictures helped us illustrate what our shows were about.  Thanks Keith for the beautiful photos!

In 2012, Lyric is planning on partnering with many more stores and services in the Plaza District.  We want to continue these great partnerships! In doing that we are kicking off the 2012 year with a partnership with Paula & Company Realtors.  Paula & Company is right across the street from Lyric’s Plaza Theatre.  We will partner with Paula & Company to bring the Live on the Plaza goers a chance to show off their 1980 style with 80s karaoke night this Friday, January 13th from 9:00pm to 11:00pm at Paula & Company.  Come and sing one song…only one song… and your name will be put into a drawing to win 2 tickets to see the hilarious Lyric show, XANADU at the Plaza Theatre running January 25th through February 11th.  Come rock with us this Friday night! See you then!

Lyric’s Understudies are partnering with the new and wonderful Urban Wineworks! This great wine bar is brand new to the district and have jumped right into partnering with Lyric in 2012. Lyric’s Understudies group is made up of men & women ages 40 and under who cultivate a love of theatre and passion for Lyric in the Oklahoma City community. Social events are planned throughout the year that coincide with Lyric productions. They will kicking off the 2012 Season with a party at Urban Wineworks on Saturday, January 28th.  Learn about the event and how to get involved by going to the event page on Facebook!
