Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma is proud to present
“The Sound of Music” Musical Interactive!

Enjoy the songs, costumes, actors, and the entertainment of Lyric Theatre’s The Sound of Music Interactive tour for 2024-25. The cast will take the audience through a ‘best of’ journey of the musical The Sound of Music as well as educating about the  the art of Musical Theatre.

Intended to be a one-semester program, Lyric quickly realized there was a need in the community for such a program to be permanent after receiving an overwhelming response from teachers and students, as well as compiling a wait list of over 50 schools that could not be served within that year. In seeking long-term funding for the program, Lyric is excited to have forged a partnership with Devon Energy. Having generously supported Musical Interactive since its inception, Devon has continued to provide annual funding for the program.

During the 2023-24 school year we grew leaps and bounds thanks to our title sponsors Dr. Elliott R. Schwartz & Pam Shanklin. We are happy to report that we visited ALL of our 77 counties, over 300 schools and performed for over 140,000 students statewide!

Lyric’s Musical Interactive programs is a presentation that entertains and educates. The Interactive troupe will be traveling from September 2024 through May 2025. We offer performances during school hours, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The show runs approximately 45 minutes and includes a “Q & A” session with the students at the end. In addition to the performance, students will receive a colorful guide filled with fun facts, puzzles and information. The program is FREE OF CHARGE to interested Oklahoma schools and is geared towards Elementary/Middle School Students.

Lyric Theatre’s “The Sound of Music” Musical Interactive is ready to travel to schools around the state of Oklahoma during the school year! This beautiful program offers an original take on a familiar story that is appropriate for all ages.

Interactive FAQ for Educators

Any tips for scheduling?

  •  Please view this as an “entire school” event. The more students we serve, the more funding we receive to continue this free program across the state.
  •  For schools requesting two shows, please request both time slots before lunch or after lunch. Split days may delay the scheduling process.
  •  No distance is too great for Musical Interactive to travel thanks to the generous support of our sponsors!

What will happen after I submit the Bring To My School form?

Lyric’s Interactive Coordinator will use the information provided to determine the appropriate number of performances, and email the Primary Contact listed with proposed dates and times. The Interactive Coordinator and the school contact then work together to get your school on the 2023-2024 schedule.

For which age groups is the Interactive program appropriate?

Interactive is appropriate for most ages — we primarily serve Pre-K through Middle School. We love to perform for as many students as possible!

What can I do to prepare for the Interactive group prior to the day-of?

  • Reserve the performance space
  • Prepare the performance space — make sure it is clean and clear of clutter
  • Put the performance on the school-wide calendar

What can I expect the day of my performance?

  • The Interactive team arrive will approximately 20-30 minutes prior to performance time.
  • The Interactive stage manager will check in at the front office with Study Guides for your students. Please ensure that office staff are aware of the group’s arrival.
  • Office staff should be able to provide information on which external door the tour trailer can be unloaded through. Please make sure this door is unlocked.
  • Please secure a private area for the actors to change into costume — this can be a dressing room, classroom, storage room, bathroom, library, etc.
  • The performance will last about 40-45 minutes.
  • If you have an afternoon performance, please strategize how to clear the parent pick-up carpool to ensure a prompt departure for the Interactive group after load out.

When will the Interactive Group arrive?

Our team arrives approximately 20-30 minutes prior to your performance time. Eg: If your performance is scheduled for 9AM, our group will arrive around 8:30AM.

When should I book my performance time?

Your performance time is when the show starts. If students get out of class at 9AM, you should ensure your performance is scheduled for 9:15AM to allow student travel and seating time. The Interactive group will not hold for longer than 10 minutes after the scheduled performance start time.

Can my school incorporate the Interactive performance into our morning assembly?

Yes, as long as the performance can still begin on time. For example, if the assembly begins at 8:30AM, schedule your performance for 8:45AM or 9AM. The group can load in while you are holding your assembly.

Can we take photos of the Interactive performance?

Yes! If you have social media, be sure to tag us on Facebook (Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma), or Instagram and Twitter (@LyricTheatreOKC)!

“My dream is that by providing this opportunity for YOU to enjoy Lyric Theatre’s OKLAHOMA! Musical Interactive, is that you will learn not only about our state and its history, but also enjoy the experience of live theatre.

Theatre opened up a whole new world for me as I was growing up. It made me think about things. It made me wonder about things. It taught me about life, to hope and to dream, it helped me understand that the world around us is filled with many different places, people and experiences, all waiting to be explored.

My hope for YOU is that YOU too will HOPE, that YOU will DREAM, that YOU will LEARN and I know YOU will then SUCCEED. I BELIEVE in YOU! ENJOY the show!”
