My name is Becca and I am Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma’s summer intern! Inasmuch Foundation hires summer interns and then distributes us across the city to some of their grant recipients, one of which is Lyric! This is my second summer with Lyric and I could not be more excited!
When Inasmuch Foundation asked me if I wanted to intern with Lyric for a second summer, I said “yes” more than enthusiastically. Then, for a month, I had to wait for a confirmation email saying Lyric had accepted me. The anticipation was almost more than I could handle.
When I finally got the much-anticipated email, I did a happy dance around my apartment!
I absolutely love Lyric, and you should, too! Here are the top 3 reasons why I love working at Lyric:
1. It feels like family. Last summer, my grandpa passed away and there was no question that I was not coming to work. I received hugs and condolences (as well as pie.) There is a powerful sense of community here!
2. I’m allowed to mess up. As the intern, I’m not expected to do everything perfectly on the first try. Everyone is so encouraging and helpful, I’m never afraid to ask questions.
3. I’m pushed out of my comfort zone. (Isn’t that what internships are all about?!) Last summer I helped run the children’s music theatre camp, as well as work backstage for one of the shows – this summer I’m writing a blog post (terrifying!) and managing our Facebook ticket giveaway contest. It is definitely building my confidence!
I am so excited for this summer, especially the four shows – LES MISERABLES, DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID, MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT, and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer holds for my internship with Lyric!
