Around town: Musical takes first bow here
Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma is treating Oklahoma City to another world-premiere musical at its Plaza Theatre through Oct. 25. BERNICE BOBS HER HAIR is the clever title of the musical taking its first bow right here in Oklahoma City.
Lyric’s producing artistic director, Michael Baron, admits he loves directing period pieces and making them fresh and relevant for today’s audiences. He first came upon the musical at the National Alliance for Musical Theatre’s Festival of New Musicals in 2012.
This musical is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story of the same name.
The musical is humorous in script and jazzy in music of the period: summer of 1912. Cast members include Celeste Rose as Bernice, Sarah Quinn Taylor as Marjorie, Russell McCook as Warren McIntyre, Vince Leseney as Mr. Harvey and Mandy Jiran as Mrs. Harvey.
Baron directed the musical and Ashley Wells is choreographer.
Tickets to all of Lyric’s 2015 show are now on sale. Visit Lyric’s box office at 1727 NW 16th St. or call (405) 524-9312. Online purchase is at LyricTheatreOKC.com. Performance times are 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 2 p.m. Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.
