Around Town: MARY POPPINS pops into Lyric

Each night that Mary Poppins is on the Lyric Theatre stage, the darling nanny will come alive with her charm and winsomenesss as she sings and dances in the musical based on the Disney film, a story of magic and common sense. Lindsie Vanwinkle, University of Central Oklahoma graduate and off-Broadway and UCO stage veteran, will take the lead role in the play Tuesday through Saturday at Civic Center Music Hall.

A special treat for youngsters will be the opportunities to meet many fairy tale princes and princesses, with whom they can be photographed and secure autographs. This will take place every evening for 40 minutes prior to each show, provided by Forever After Parties.

After each performance, select cast members will be available to sign autographs and take photos.

Playing the role of London’s jolliest chimney sweep, Bert, will be Jeremy Benton, who will join in such delightful songs as Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and Jolly Holiday.

Joe Deer, head of the bachelor of fine arts musical theater program at Wright State University, directs. Other major cast members will include our favorite Jonathan Beck Reed, Melissa Griffith, Addie Wagner and Michael James.

Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets to all of Lyric’s 2015 shows are available and start at $25. Purchase tickets by visiting Lyric’s box office at 1727 NW 16th St. or visiting LyricTheatreOKC.com, or calling (405) 524-9312.
