TARZAN starts rehearsals in two weeks! It’s hard for our staff to believe that our Civic Center season starts in four short weeks, but we can’t wait. Our production of TARZAN will be the Oklahoma premiere, and its going to be quite the spectacle. Here are our top five reasons to look forward to TARZAN’s opening night.
1) The flying. Its not every day that you get to see actors soar around the stage, but TARZAN will be one of those shows. Monkeys swinging from vine to vine and acrobatics like you won’t believe- its sure to be quite the sight.
2) The set. With the hard work of Adam Koch (scenic designer) and Erin Latham (mixed media printmaker), the set won’t look like anything you’ve ever seen on a Lyric stage. We’re bringing the jungle to the Civic Center.
3) The talent. The cast is full of crazy talented folks like Steve Blanchard (Lyric’s CALL ME MADAM), Felicia Boswell (the national tour of MEMPHIS THE MUSICAL), Nicholas Rodriguez (Arena Stage’s OKLAHOMA!), and Heather Botts (Lyric’s CALL ME MADAM). Their performances will be incredible.
4) The music. Everyone loves a good Phil Collins song, and this musical of full of his work. It brings back songs from the Disney movie, like “You’ll Be In My Heart” and “Trashing the Camp”, and adds some new ones like “For the First Time”.
5) It’s our birthday! TARZAN will be the first Civic Center show of our 50th Anniversary season, and a momentous occasion for us. It’s going to be pretty awesome.
