MANN… AND WIFE is a comedic musical based on Dan Elish’s 2005 novel “Nine Wives”, exploring the life of a bachelor looking for love and family, making a few mistakes along the way. Elish met music and co-lyricist Douglas J. Cohen while working in the mailroom of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City as a collegian. Though they have remained friends ever since, MANN… AND WIFE marks their collaborative debut.

Set in modern-day New York City, MANN…AND WIFE addresses the many struggles of dating. What do you do when you’re heartbroken and looking for love? Henry Mann (Zachary Prince) is determined that his date to (his ex) Sheila’s wedding will be “the one.” His only problem is that his ideal woman is “a refined, artsy, bohemian, earnest, sweet, sexy, smart, spiritual, best friend, nurturing, sophisticated, elegant lady!”

New York may be a big city, but finding someone who matches every one of those qualities is probably going to take a lot of patience, which Henry doesn’t have.

When it comes down to it, there are a few women (all played by Liz Shivener) in Henry’s life that are viable options. There’s Tamar, the girl Henry’s best friend and roommate, Glenn (Mateja Govich), met at Starbucks. There’s Christine, the third grade teacher. There’s Yoga Girl who lives across the hall. And then there’s the seductive mystery woman on the phone. All possibilities, right?
