A favorite musical in the hearts of all theatre goers, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE provides a unique story and noteworthy cast of characters. With this musical within a comedy, there is sure to be something everyone in the family enjoys! Running August 9 through 13 at the Civic Center Music Hall, this show is not to be missed.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE opened on Broadway on May 1, 2006 and ran for an impressive 674 performances. It tells the tale of ‘Man in Chair’ as he takes the audience back in time to the roaring twenties. With facts, trivia and a wealth of information on hand, the man narrates the audience’s experience through his favorite musical ‘The Drowsy Chaperone.’ THE DROWSY CHAPERONE takes place in the Prohibition era as a bright young starlet is about to give up her fame for love. The mistakes in identity and a “drowsy” chaperone supervising it all makes for an exceptional evening, especially for the ‘Man in Chair’ who narrates it all. He interjects his thoughts, opinions and personal flair as the show progresses on stage. His cynical framework and obvious affection for the show make it enjoyable for the audience to watch, even through silly scenes such as the “spit take” or gangsters making pastry puns.

Lyric’s production stars Martin Burke as the ‘Man in Chair’ and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner as the title character. Burke was seen in Lyric’s 2014 production of THE ODD COUPLE, and is regularly seen at Austin’s ZACH Theatre. Skinner has been seen on Lyric’s stages as Sandra Bloom in BIG FISH, Charlotte in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, and Ursula in DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID. Skinner was nominated for her performance in SIDE SHOW on Broadway.

Notable original cast members included Bob Martin as ‘Man in Chair’ and Sutton Foster as ‘Janet van de Graaf. THE DROWSY CHAPERONE was nominated for 13 Tony awards and won five, the most of any musical that season.

#LyricsDROWSYCHAPERONE is sure to be the cherry on top to a perfect summer season at the Civic Center. Purchase your tickets today for a chance to enjoy the real reason we go to the theatre, to be entertained! Tickets can be purchased here or by calling the box office at (405) 524-9312.
