Celebrate the Motown Sound with Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma this summer in DREAMGIRLS. This musical, inspired by the real-life musical group The Supremes, follows The Dreams in their rise to the top of the pop and R&B charts. The musical was adapted in 2006 as an Oscar winning film, starring Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, and Eddie Murphy. Directed by Lyric’s producing artistic director, Michael Baron, this production will star Tiffany Mann of the BET Network’s television series “It’s A Mann’s World” as Effie White.

“DREAMGIRLS is one of my favorite musicals of all time,” said Baron. “I’m so excited to direct the cast in musical numbers like  ‘One Night Only’ and ‘(And I’m Tellin’ You) I’m Not Going.’ I’ve assembled an cast from around the globe for this production, and I know that their performances will delight and excite our audiences.”

Tiffany Mann will star as Effie White. Mann’s credits include SWEENEY TODD with the New York Philharmonic, INVISIBLE THREAD off Broadway, and THE COLOR PURPLE (Celie) with Oklahoma City’s Poteet Theater. Mann is the daughter of Dove Award winning gospel singer and television star Tamela Mann. Also joining the cast is Broadway’s Kyle Taylor Parker as James “Thunder” Early. Parker has been seen on Broadway in KINKY BOOTS as Lola; other credits include the national tour of KINKY BOOTS (Lola) and IN THE HEIGHTS. Anna Uzele will play Deena Jones, and Kristina Love, who was in Lyric’s 2011 production of RAGTIME, will play Lorrell Robinson.  Love is coming to DREAMGIRLS directly from the German production of Disney’s ALADDIN.

Other cast members include Isaiah Bailey as Curtis Taylor Jr., Denzel Edmondson as C.C., and W. Jerome Stevenson as Marty. Bailey has been seen in Lyric’s productions of BIG FISH (Don Price),  LES MISERABLES, BIG RIVER, and TARZAN. Edmonson has been seen in CATS (Rum Tum Tugger) and THE WIZ (The Wiz) at Broadway at Iroquois. Stephenson is the artistic director of the Pollard Theatre in Guthrie, Oklahoma; he has also been seen in Lyric’s productions of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW (Narrator) and RAGTIME.
